The Tuxedo

The Tuxedo

The holiday season is just around the corner and that means it's time to start planning your festive outfits. Our favourite look this festive season: the tuxedo.

History of the women's tuxedo

The women’s tuxedo began with Yves Saint Laurent’s creation of “Le Smoking” back in 1966. At the time, this groundbreaking creation challenged gender norms and marked the beginning of women embracing traditionally masculine attire. The androgynous look gained popularity in the 1970s, with style icons like Bianca Jagger and Marlene Dietrich proudly wearing tuxedos.

Over the decades, designers and style icons continued to redefine and refine the women's tuxedo, making it a symbol of empowerment, sophistication, and rebellion against gender-based dress codes. Today, the women's tuxedo has become a wardrobe staple with countless variations, styles, and customization options.
